Spring into Service! April 2011

Environmental Awareness

Whether  you’ve got a green thumb, you’re serious about recycling, an instructor interested in service-learning, or a sustainable businessperson, you’ll find something to expand your knowledge and get you excited about protecting the environment!

The Marylhurst community is invited to participate in all of the SIS awareness-raising events and service activities! Please RSVP to one or all by e-mailing Amanda Baker, Marylhurst Service Program coordinator, at abaker@marylhurst.edu. Events are sponsored by MUSAC and Net Impact.

Hope to see you there!

Thank you all who participated in the Marylhurst volunteer event at Oregon Food Bank West on Monday.  Together with other community members, our team worked hard to pack 5,839 pounds of salmon!  Many small tasks came together to achieve this.  Thanks go to the unloaders, labelers, weighers, twist tiers, boxers, and pallet movers.  In a single visit, the entire group packed enough food to provide 4,492 meals for people in need.  Every member of the team can be proud of their individual contribution; they each packed 173 meals.

In Oregon and Clark County Washington, an estimated 240,000 people eat from an emergency food box in an average month.  This volunteer service helps our many neighbors who aren’t sure where their next meal will come from.

What a wonderful group!

If you are interested in getting to know your fellow colleagues, classmates, teachers and MU community, sign up for February’s Oregon Food Bank visit this Valentine’s Day, February 14th! (Details below…)
