Willamette West Habitat for Humanity needs your help!

Summer’s here and I hope you are enjoying the wonderful weather! We’ve been working hard on the construction site and recently broke ground on a new neighborhood – BraunerBrook – that will eventually be the home to 9 new partner families! However, as you are all aware, Habitat needs volunteers on and off the construction site and we’ve got a few opportunities coming up that will take you away from building homes and on to other ways in which to help us achieve our mission. Below are the opportunities I have coming up. Please let me know if you would like to lend a hand with either project (one involves construction in bit of a different way). I truly appreciate all you do for us! THANK YOU! Washington County Fair·  We have a booth at the Washington County Fair this year! We are seeking volunteers to fill shifts on Thursday, July 26 through Sunday, July 29. We need 2 volunteers per shift, so please check out the dates and times listed below and sign up to help out! It’s bound to be an exciting weekend at the fair!Washington County Fair
The Habitat ReStore resells donated gentle used construction materials, furniture, appliances and other items to the public. The funds raised then go directly to Habitat to build homes. The Build Material Recovery Program was recently established to utilize materials that originally were going to the landfill when developers and homeowners did remodeling projects. The opportunity would entail removing cabinets, appliances, flooring, doors, windows, fencing and any materials from a home (that will soon be demolished) to be resold at the ReStore. It’s a great way to get your hands dirty and still help out Habitat! Below are the days I need 3 volunteers to help with a project off of West Union Road. Please let me know if you would like to help out!

Time commitment and schedule

Each volunteer commits to a six-week class series using Share our Strength’s Cooking Matters™ curricula. Cooking Matters™ is nationally sponsored by the ConAgra Foods® Foundation and Walmart.

Volunteers must attend an orientation session one week before classes begin. Classes are held mornings, afternoons or evenings at the same time each week and are two hours per session. We schedule classes on-site at our northeast Portland and Beaverton facilities, and at off-site locations throughout the community.

Volunteers are placed based on the following schedule:

  • In December for classes between January and March
  • In March for classes between April and June
  • In June for classes between July and September
  • In September for classes between October and December

No volunteers are scheduled mid-season, but potential volunteers are welcome to observe a class at any time.
